GEN 6:18 But I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the
ark--you and your sons and your wife and your sons' wives with you.
9:24 When Noah awoke from his wine and found out what his youngest son had
done to him,
25 he said, "Cursed be Canaan! The lowest of slaves will he be to his
brothers."
26 He also said, "Blessed be the LORD, the God of Shem! May Canaan be the
slave of Shem.
27 May God extend the territory of Japheth; may Japheth live in the tents
of Shem, and may Canaan be his slave."
17:18 And Abraham said to God, "If only Ishmael might live under your
blessing!"
18:19 For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his
household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and
just, so that the LORD will bring about for Abraham what he has promised
him."
21:15 When the water in the skin was gone, she put the boy under one of
the bushes.
16 Then she went off and sat down nearby, about a bowshot away, for she
thought, "I cannot watch the boy die." And as she sat there nearby, she
began to sob.
24:55 But her brother and her mother replied, "Let the girl remain with us
ten days or so; then you may go."
25:28 Isaac, who had a taste for wild game, loved Esau, but Rebekah loved
Jacob.
27:6 Rebekah said to her son Jacob, "Look, I overheard your father say to
your brother Esau,
7 'Bring me some game and prepare me some tasty food to eat, so that I may
give you my blessing in the presence of the LORD before I die.'
8 Now, my son, listen carefully and do what I tell you:
9 Go out to the flock and bring me two choice young goats, so I can
prepare some tasty food for your father, just the way he likes it.
10 Then take it to your father to eat, so that he may give you his
blessing before he dies."
11 Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, "But my brother Esau is a hairy man,
and I'm a man with smooth skin.
12 What if my father touches me? I would appear to be tricking him and
would bring down a curse on myself rather than a blessing."
13 His mother said to him, "My son, let the curse fall on me. Just do what
I say; go and get them for me."
14 So he went and got them and brought them to his mother, and she
prepared some tasty food, just the way his father liked it.
15 Then Rebekah took the best clothes of Esau her older son, which she had
in the house, and put them on her younger son Jacob.
16 She also covered his hands and the smooth part of his neck with the
goatskins.
17 Then she handed to her son Jacob the tasty food and the bread she had
made.
26 Then his father Isaac said to him, "Come here, my son, and kiss me."
27 So he went to him and kissed him. When Isaac caught the smell of his
clothes, he blessed him and said, "Ah, the smell of my son is like the
smell of a field that the LORD has blessed.
28:3 May God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and increase your
numbers until you become a community of peoples.
4 May he give you and your descendants the blessing given to Abraham, so
that you may take possession of the land where you now live as an alien,
the land God gave to Abraham."
31:26 Then Laban said to Jacob, "What have you done? You've deceived me,
and you've carried off my daughters like captives in war.
27 Why did you run off secretly and deceive me? Why didn't you tell me, so
I could send you away with joy and singing to the music of tambourines and
harps?
28 You didn't even let me kiss my grandchildren and my daughters good-by.
You have done a foolish thing.
33:2 He put the maidservants and their children in front, Leah and her
children next, and Rachel and Joseph in the rear.
37:3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than any of his other sons, because he
had been born to him in his old age; and he made a richly ornamented robe
for him.
4 When his brothers saw that their father loved him more than any of them,
they hated him and could not speak a kind word to him.
42:4 But Jacob did not send Benjamin, Joseph's brother, with the others,
because he was afraid that harm might come to him.
38 But Jacob said, "My son will not go down there with you; his brother is
dead and he is the only one left. If harm comes to him on the journey you
are taking, you will bring my gray head down to the grave in sorrow."
43:13 Take your brother also and go back to the man at once.
14 And may God Almighty grant you mercy before the man so that he will let
your other brother and Benjamin come back with you. As for me, if I am
bereaved, I am bereaved."
45:26 They told him, "Joseph is still alive! In fact, he is ruler of all
Egypt." Jacob was stunned; he did not believe them.
27 But when they told him everything Joseph had said to them, and when he
saw the carts Joseph had sent to carry him back, the spirit of their father
Jacob revived.
28 And Israel said, "I'm convinced! My son Joseph is still alive. I will
go and see him before I die."
48:10 Now Israel's eyes were failing because of old age, and he could
hardly see. So Joseph brought his sons close to him, and his father kissed
them and embraced them.
11 Israel said to Joseph, "I never expected to see your face again, and
now God has allowed me to see your children too."
15 Then he blessed Joseph and said, "May the God before whom my fathers
Abraham and Isaac walked, the God who has been my shepherd all my life to
this day,
16 the Angel who has delivered me from all harm--may he bless these boys.
May they be called by my name and the names of my fathers Abraham and
Isaac, and may they increase greatly upon the earth."
17 When Joseph saw his father placing his right hand on Ephraim's head he
was displeased; so he took hold of his father's hand to move it from
Ephraim's head to Manasseh's head.
18 Joseph said to him, "No, my father, this one is the firstborn; put your
right hand on his head."
19 But his father refused and said, "I know, my son, I know. He too will
become a people, and he too will become great. Nevertheless, his younger
brother will be greater than he, and his descendants will become a group of
nations."
20 He blessed them that day and said, "In your name will Israel pronounce
this blessing: 'May God make you like Ephraim and Manasseh.'" So he put
Ephraim ahead of Manasseh.
22 And to you, as one who is over your brothers, I give the ridge of land
I took from the Amorites with my sword and my bow."
49:1 Then Jacob called for his sons and said: "Gather around so I can tell
you what will happen to you in days to come.
2 "Assemble and listen, sons of Jacob; listen to your father Israel.
3 "Reuben, you are my firstborn, my might, the first sign of my strength,
excelling in honor, excelling in power.
4 Turbulent as the waters, you will no longer excel, for you went up onto
your father's bed, onto my couch and defiled it.
5 "Simeon and Levi are brothers--their swords are weapons of violence.
6 Let me not enter their council, let me not join their assembly, for they
have killed men in their anger and hamstrung oxen as they pleased.
7 Cursed be their anger, so fierce, and their fury, so cruel! I will
scatter them in Jacob and disperse them in Israel.
8 "Judah, your brothers will praise you; your hand will be on the neck of
your enemies; your father's sons will bow down to you.
9 You are a lion's cub, O Judah; you return from the prey, my son. Like a
lion he crouches and lies down, like a lioness--who dares to rouse him?
10 The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from
between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs and the obedience of
the nations is his.
11 He will tether his donkey to a vine, his colt to the choicest branch;
he will wash his garments in wine, his robes in the blood of grapes.
12 His eyes will be darker than wine, his teeth whiter than milk.
13 "Zebulun will live by the seashore and become a haven for ships; his
border will extend toward Sidon.
14 "Issachar is a rawboned donkey lying down between two saddlebags.
15 When he sees how good is his resting place and how pleasant is his
land, he will bend his shoulder to the burden and submit to forced labor.
16 "Dan will provide justice for his people as one of the tribes of
Israel.
17 Dan will be a serpent by the roadside, a viper along the path, that
bites the horse's heels so that its rider tumbles backward.
18 "I look for your deliverance, O LORD.
19 "Gad will be attacked by a band of raiders, but he will attack them at
their heels.
20 "Asher's food will be rich; he will provide delicacies fit for a king.
21 "Naphtali is a doe set free that bears beautiful fawns.
22 "Joseph is a fruitful vine, a fruitful vine near a spring, whose
branches climb over a wall.
23 With bitterness archers attacked him; they shot at him with hostility.
24 But his bow remained steady, his strong arms stayed limber, because of
the hand of the Mighty One of Jacob, because of the Shepherd, the Rock of
Israel,
25 because of your father's God, who helps you, because of the Almighty,
who blesses you with blessings of the heavens above, blessings of the deep
that lies below, blessings of the breast and womb.
26 Your father's blessings are greater than the blessings of the ancient
mountains, than the bounty of the age-old hills. Let all these rest on the
head of Joseph, on the brow of the prince among his brothers.
27 "Benjamin is a ravenous wolf; in the morning he devours the prey, in
the evening he divides the plunder."
28 All these are the twelve tribes of Israel, and this is what their
father said to them when he blessed them, giving each the blessing
appropriate to him.
EXO 10:2 that you may tell your children and grandchildren how I dealt
harshly with the Egyptians and how I performed my signs among them, and
that you may know that I am the LORD."
12:26 And when your children ask you, 'What does this ceremony mean to
you?'
27 then tell them, 'It is the Passover sacrifice to the LORD, who passed
over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt and spared our homes when he
struck down the Egyptians.'" Then the people bowed down and worshiped.
13:8 On that day tell your son, 'I do this because of what the LORD did
for me when I came out of Egypt.'
14 "In days to come, when your son asks you, 'What does this mean?' say to
him, 'With a mighty hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt, out of the land
of slavery.
20:5 You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your
God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to
the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,
6 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep
my commandments.
10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall
not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant
or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates.
21:17 "Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death.
LEV 20:5 I will set my face against that man and his family and will cut
off from their people both him and all who follow him in prostituting
themselves to Molech.
9 "'If anyone curses his father or mother, he must be put to death. He has
cursed his father or his mother, and his blood will be on his own head.
23:3 "'There are six days when you may work, but the seventh day is a
Sabbath of rest, a day of sacred assembly. You are not to do any work;
wherever you live, it is a Sabbath to the LORD.
DEU 4:9 Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not
forget the things your eyes have seen or let them slip from your heart as
long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after
them.
10 Remember the day you stood before the LORD your God at Horeb, when he
said to me, "Assemble the people before me to hear my words so that they
may learn to revere me as long as they live in the land and may teach them
to their children."
6:7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home
and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
20 In the future, when your son asks you, "What is the meaning of the
stipulations, decrees and laws the LORD our God has commanded you?"
21 tell him: "We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, but the LORD brought us
out of Egypt with a mighty hand.
22 Before our eyes the LORD sent miraculous signs and wonders--great and
terrible--upon Egypt and Pharaoh and his whole household.
23 But he brought us out from there to bring us in and give us the land
that he promised on oath to our forefathers.
24 The LORD commanded us to obey all these decrees and to fear the LORD
our God, so that we might always prosper and be kept alive, as is the case
today.
11:18 Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as
symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.
19 Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home
and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
20 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates,
21 so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land
that the LORD swore to give your forefathers, as many as the days that the
heavens are above the earth.
32:46 he said to them, "Take to heart all the words I have solemnly
declared to you this day, so that you may command your children to obey
carefully all the words of this law.
RTH 1:8 Then Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, "Go back, each of
you, to your mother's home. May the LORD show kindness to you, as you have
shown to your dead and to me.
9 May the LORD grant that each of you will find rest in the home of
another husband." Then she kissed them and they wept aloud
1SA 1:27 I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked
of him.
2:19 Each year his mother made him a little robe and took it to him when
she went up with her husband to offer the annual sacrifice.
27 Now a man of God came to Eli and said to him, "This is what the LORD
says: 'Did I not clearly reveal myself to your father's house when they
were in Egypt under Pharaoh?
28 I chose your father out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to
go up to my altar, to burn incense, and to wear an ephod in my presence. I
also gave your father's house all the offerings made with fire by the
Israelites.
29 Why do you scorn my sacrifice and offering that I prescribed for my
dwelling? Why do you honor your sons more than me by fattening yourselves
on the choice parts of every offering made by my people Israel?'
30 "Therefore the LORD, the God of Israel, declares: 'I promised that your
house and your father's house would minister before me forever.' But now
the LORD declares: 'Far be it from me! Those who honor me I will honor, but
those who despise me will be disdained.
31 The time is coming when I will cut short your strength and the strength
of your father's house, so that there will not be an old man in your family
line
32 and you will see distress in my dwelling. Although good will be done to
Israel, in your family line there will never be an old man.
33 Every one of you that I do not cut off from my altar will be spared
only to blind your eyes with tears and to grieve your heart, and all your
descendants will die in the prime of life.
34 "'And what happens to your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, will be a
sign to you--they will both die on the same day.
35 I will raise up for myself a faithful priest, who will do according to
what is in my heart and mind. I will firmly establish his house, and he
will minister before my anointed one always.
36 Then everyone left in your family line will come and bow down before
him for a piece of silver and a crust of bread and plead, "Appoint me to
some priestly office so I can have food to eat."'"
3:13 For I told him that I would judge his family forever because of the
sin he knew about; his sons made themselves contemptible, and he failed to
restrain them.
14 Therefore, I swore to the house of Eli, 'The guilt of Eli's house will
never be atoned for by sacrifice or offering.'"
4:10 So the Philistines fought, and the Israelites were defeated and every
man fled to his tent. The slaughter was very great; Israel lost thirty
thousand foot soldiers.
11 The ark of God was captured, and Eli's two sons, Hophni and Phinehas,
died.
12 That same day a Benjamite ran from the battle line and went to Shiloh,
his clothes torn and dust on his head.
13 When he arrived, there was Eli sitting on his chair by the side of the
road, watching, because his heart feared for the ark of God. When the man
entered the town and told what had happened, the whole town sent up a cry.
14 Eli heard the outcry and asked, "What is the meaning of this uproar?"
The man hurried over to Eli,
15 who was ninety-eight years old and whose eyes were set so that he could
not see.
16 He told Eli, "I have just come from the battle line; I fled from it
this very day." Eli asked, "What happened, my son?"
17 The man who brought the news replied, "Israel fled before the
Philistines, and the army has suffered heavy losses. Also your two sons,
Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God has been captured."
18 When he mentioned the ark of God, Eli fell backward off his chair by
the side of the gate. His neck was broken and he died, for he was an old
man and heavy. He had led Israel forty years.
19 His daughter-in-law, the wife of Phinehas, was pregnant and near the
time of delivery. When she heard the news that the ark of God had been
captured and that her father-in-law and her husband were dead, she went
into labor and gave birth, but was overcome by her labor pains.
20 As she was dying, the women attending her said, "Don't despair; you
have given birth to a son." But she did not respond or pay any attention.
21 She named the boy Ichabod, saying, "The glory has departed from
Israel"--because of the capture of the ark of God and the deaths of her
father-in-law and her husband.
22 She said, "The glory has departed from Israel, for the ark of God has
been captured."
2SA 7:25 "And now, LORD God, keep forever the promise you have made
concerning your servant and his house. Do as you promised,
26 so that your name will be great forever. Then men will say, 'The LORD
Almighty is God over Israel!' And the house of your servant David will be
established before you.
27 "O LORD Almighty, God of Israel, you have revealed this to your
servant, saying, 'I will build a house for you.' So your servant has found
courage to offer you this prayer.
28 O Sovereign LORD, you are God! Your words are trustworthy, and you have
promised these good things to your servant.
29 Now be pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue
forever in your sight; for you, O Sovereign LORD, have spoken, and with
your blessing the house of your servant will be blessed forever."
12:16 David pleaded with God for the child. He fasted and went into his
house and spent the nights lying on the ground.
18 On the seventh day the child died. David's servants were afraid to tell
him that the child was dead, for they thought, "While the child was still
living, we spoke to David but he would not listen to us. How can we tell
him the child is dead? He may do something desperate."
19 David noticed that his servants were whispering among themselves and he
realized the child was dead. "Is the child dead?" he asked. "Yes," they
replied, "he is dead."
20 Then David got up from the ground. After he had washed, put on lotions
and changed his clothes, he went into the house of the LORD and worshiped.
Then he went to his own house, and at his request they served him food, and
he ate.
21 His servants asked him, "Why are you acting this way? While the child
was alive, you fasted and wept, but now that the child is dead, you get up
and eat!"
22 He answered, "While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept. I
thought, 'Who knows? The LORD may be gracious to me and let the child
live.'
23 But now that he is dead, why should I fast? Can I bring him back again?
I will go to him, but he will not return to me."
13:38 After Absalom fled and went to Geshur, he stayed there three years.
39 And the spirit of the king longed to go to Absalom, for he was consoled
concerning Amnon's death.
14:1 Joab son of Zeruiah knew that the king's heart longed for Absalom.
33 So Joab went to the king and told him this. Then the king summoned
Absalom, and he came in and bowed down with his face to the ground before
the king. And the king kissed Absalom.
18:5 The king commanded Joab, Abishai and Ittai, "Be gentle with the young
man Absalom for my sake." And all the troops heard the king giving orders
concerning Absalom to each of the commanders.
12 But the man replied, "Even if a thousand shekels were weighed out into
my hands, I would not lift my hand against the king's son. In our hearing
the king commanded you and Abishai and Ittai, 'Protect the young man
Absalom for my sake.'
13 And if I had put my life in jeopardy--and nothing is hidden from the
king--you would have kept your distance from me."
33 The king was shaken. He went up to the room over the gateway and wept.
As he went, he said: "O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom! If only I
had died instead of you--O Absalom, my son, my son!"
19:1 Joab was told, "The king is weeping and mourning for Absalom."
2 And for the whole army the victory that day was turned into mourning,
because on that day the troops heard it said, "The king is grieving for his
son."
3 The men stole into the city that day as men steal in who are ashamed
when they flee from battle.
4 The king covered his face and cried aloud, "O my son Absalom! O Absalom,
my son, my son!"
5 Then Joab went into the house to the king and said, "Today you have
humiliated all your men, who have just saved your life and the lives of
your sons and daughters and the lives of your wives and concubines.
6 You love those who hate you and hate those who love you. You have made
it clear today that the commanders and their men mean nothing to you. I see
that you would be pleased if Absalom were alive today and all of us were
dead.
21:10 Rizpah daughter of Aiah took sackcloth and spread it out for herself
on a rock. From the beginning of the harvest till the rain poured down from
the heavens on the bodies, she did not let the birds of the air touch them
by day or the wild animals by night.
1KI 1:6 (His father had never interfered with him by asking, "Why do you
behave as you do?" He was also very handsome and was born next after
Absalom.)
3:22 The other woman said, "No! The living one is my son; the dead one is
yours." But the first one insisted, "No! The dead one is yours; the living
one is mine." And so they argued before the king.
23 The king said, "This one says, 'My son is alive and your son is dead,'
while that one says, 'No! Your son is dead and mine is alive.'"
24 Then the king said, "Bring me a sword." So they brought a sword for the
king.
25 He then gave an order: "Cut the living child in two and give half to
one and half to the other."
26 The woman whose son was alive was filled with compassion for her son
and said to the king, "Please, my lord, give her the living baby! Don't
kill him!" But the other said, "Neither I nor you shall have him. Cut him
in two!"
27 Then the king gave his ruling: "Give the living baby to the first
woman. Do not kill him; she is his mother."
28 When all Israel heard the verdict the king had given, they held the
king in awe, because they saw that he had wisdom from God to administer
justice.
1CH 17:16 Then King David went in and sat before the LORD, and he said:
"Who am I, O LORD God, and what is my family, that you have brought me this
far?
17 And as if this were not enough in your sight, O God, you have spoken
about the future of the house of your servant. You have looked on me as
though I were the most exalted of men, O LORD God.
18 "What more can David say to you for honoring your servant? For you know
your servant,
19 O LORD. For the sake of your servant and according to your will, you
have done this great thing and made known all these great promises.
20 "There is no one like you, O LORD, and there is no God but you, as we
have heard with our own ears.
21 And who is like your people Israel--the one nation on earth whose God
went out to redeem a people for himself, and to make a name for yourself,
and to perform great and awesome wonders by driving out nations from before
your people, whom you redeemed from Egypt?
22 You made your people Israel your very own forever, and you, O LORD,
have become their God.
23 "And now, LORD, let the promise you have made concerning your servant
and his house be established forever. Do as you promised,
24 so that it will be established and that your name will be great
forever. Then men will say, 'The LORD Almighty, the God over Israel, is
Israel's God!' And the house of your servant David will be established
before you.
25 "You, my God, have revealed to your servant that you will build a house
for him. So your servant has found courage to pray to you.
26 O LORD, you are God! You have promised these good things to your
servant.
27 Now you have been pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it
may continue forever in your sight; for you, O LORD, have blessed it, and
it will be blessed forever."
22:12 May the LORD give you discretion and understanding when he puts you
in command over Israel, so that you may keep the law of the LORD your God.
29:19 And give my son Solomon the wholehearted devotion to keep your
commands, requirements and decrees and to do everything to build the
palatial structure for which I have provided."
JOB 1:5 When a period of feasting had run its course, Job would send and
have them purified. Early in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt
offering for each of them, thinking, "Perhaps my children have sinned and
cursed God in their hearts." This was Job's regular custom.
PSA 78:5 He decreed statutes for Jacob and established the law in Israel,
which he commanded our forefathers to teach their children,
6 so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be
born, and they in turn would tell their children.
103:13 As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has
compassion on those who fear him;
17 But from everlasting to everlasting the LORD'S love is with those who
fear him, and his righteousness with their children's children--
PRO 3:12 because the LORD disciplines those he loves, as a father the son
he delights in.
13:22 A good man leaves an inheritance for his children's children, but a
sinner's wealth is stored up for the righteous.
19:18 Discipline your son, for in that there is hope; do not be a willing
party to his death.
22:6 Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not
turn from it.
15 Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline
will drive it far from him.
23:13 Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you punish him with the
rod, he will not die.
14 Punish him with the rod and save his soul from death.
27:11 Be wise, my son, and bring joy to my heart; then I can answer anyone
who treats me with contempt.
29:15 The rod of correction imparts wisdom, but a child left to himself
disgraces his mother.
17 Discipline your son, and he will give you peace; he will bring delight
to your soul.
31:28 Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he
praises her:
ISA 14:20 you will not join them in burial, for you have destroyed your
land and killed your people. The offspring of the wicked will never be
mentioned again.
38:19 The living, the living--they praise you, as I am doing today;
fathers tell their children about your faithfulness.
49:15 "Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion
on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!
66:13 As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you; and you will
be comforted over Jerusalem."
JER 9:14 Instead, they have followed the stubbornness of their hearts;
they have followed the Baals, as their fathers taught them."
31:1 "At that time," declares the LORD, "I will be the God of all the
clans of Israel, and they will be my people."
49:11 Leave your orphans; I will protect their lives. Your widows too can
trust in me."
LAM 5:7 Our fathers sinned and are no more, and we bear their punishment.
EZE 16:44 "'Everyone who quotes proverbs will quote this proverb about
you: "Like mother, like daughter."
45 You are a true daughter of your mother, who despised her husband and
her children; and you are a true sister of your sisters, who despised their
husbands and their children. Your mother was a Hittite and your father an
Amorite.
JOE 1:3 Tell it to your children, and let your children tell it to their
children, and their children to the next generation.
MAL 4:6 He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the
hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the
land with a curse."
MAT 10:37 "Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not
worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not
worthy of me;
12:46 While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers
stood outside, wanting to speak to him.
MAR 5:23 and pleaded earnestly with him, "My little daughter is dying.
Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live."
9:24 Immediately the boy's father exclaimed, "I do believe; help me
overcome my unbelief!"
LUK 2:48 When his parents saw him, they were astonished. His mother said
to him, "Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have
been anxiously searching for you."
11:11 "Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a
snake instead?
12 Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion?
13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your
children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to
those who ask him!"
JOH 2:5 His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you."
4:49 The royal official said, "Sir, come down before my child dies."
19:25 Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother's sister, Mary
the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.
2CO 12:14 Now I am ready to visit you for the third time, and I will not
be a burden to you, because what I want is not your possessions but you.
After all, children should not have to save up for their parents, but
parents for their children.
EPH 6:4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up
in the training and instruction of the Lord.
COL 3:21 Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become
discouraged.
1TH 2:11 For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals
with his own children,
1TI 3:4 He must manage his own family well and see that his children obey
him with proper respect.
5 (If anyone does not know how to manage his own family, how can he take
care of God's church?)
12 A deacon must be the husband of but one wife and must manage his
children and his household well.
5:8 If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his
immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
TIT 1:6 An elder must be blameless, the husband of but one wife, a man
whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and
disobedient.
2:4 Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and
children,
HEB 12:7 Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For
what son is not disciplined by his father?
