Psalms for Victorious living
Psalms are a personal glimpse of man's thoughts,
feelings, and experiences directed toward God. These
songs and poems are a collection of sad feelings and
ecstatic praises. Although their primary purpose is to
point us to God and sharlply contrast the holiness of God
with the wickedness of the unbeliever they also contain
much wisdom that we can apply to the problems we
encounter in our lives. I believe that you too will
profit from this brief glimpse into the warrior poet's
life. The following list is not complete but is enough
to give you something for reference. It is suggested
that verses be read in the context of the entire passage
for its fullest understanding.
Anger
Psalm 37:11: Cease from anger and forsake wrath;
fret not yourself, it leads only to evil doing.
Anxiety
Psalm 38:18 Sin causes anxiety.
Psalm 94:19: The Lord helps those who trust in Him.
Psalm 138:3: God gives courage to us if we ask.
Blessings
Psalm 1: Blessed is the person who abstains from evil and
meditates on God.
Psalm 3:5: Sleep and awakening are gifts of the Lord.
Psalm 65: God blesses all with His creation and with water
and food.

Psalm 111:5 God gives food to those who fear Him.
Psalm 112: There are blessings for those who obey God.
Psalm 119: There are blessings in learning God's word and
staying pure.
Psalm 127: God blesses us with success, sleep, and children.
Psalm 145:8,9: God's goodness, patience, and compassion.
Psalm 145:19: God fulfills the desires of those who fear Him.
Psalm 147:9: God provides for the animals too.
Psalm 147:15-18: God controls nature.
Burdens
Psalm 68:19: God helps to bear our burdens.
Psalm 7O: David asks for help in his affliction.
Psalm 1O2: A prayer of affliction.
Psalm 113:7: God helps the poor and needy.
Psalm 145:14: The Lord uphold those who fall and lifts those
who are bowed down.
Comfort
Psalm 119:5O: God's word revives and comforts us in
affliction.
Psalm 119:52: David remembered God's ordinances and they
comforted him.
Psalm 119:76, 77: David asks God to comfort him and to be
compassionate.
Psalm 119:1O7: David asks God to revive him according to His
word.
Psalm 119:143: In spite of trouble and anguish, God's
commandments are David's delights.
Psalm 126:5,6: Those who sow in tears shall reap with joyful
shouting.
Psalm 149:4: God will beautify the afflicted ones with
salvation.
Company one keeps
Psalm 1: David warns about associating with the wicked.
Psalm 26:1-7: David was careful with who he associated with
knowing how evil people can be a bad influence.
Confession
Psalm 25:7: David asks God to forgive sins from his youth.
Psalm 51: Confess your sins honestly and sincerely. God will
forgive.
Psalm 139: 23,24: Search me, O God, and know my heart.
Depression
Psalm 42: Depressed and seeking God.
Psalm 43: Depressed because of enemies.
Psalm 69: David asks to be delivered from it.
Psalm 77: David is depressed until he meditates on God's
mighty deeds.
Psalm 1O9:21-26: David is feeling afflicted, wounded in
heart, and weak.
Psalm 119:28: David's soul weeps but God's word strengthens.
