Note for item 6. According to numerous scholars, the nations and peoples
banded together under the leadership of "Gog" are: Rosh, being the Russian
nation; Mesheck, being Moscow; Tubal being Tobolsk; Persia, being today's
Iran; Ethiopia or Cush, being African nation, but also an Arabic nation
contiguous to the northern powers; Gomer, being modern-day German; and
Togarmah, being what is modern Turkey or Armenia. BUT IT SHOULD BE NOTED
that there are strong arguments in opposition to the above assertions.
"Meshech: is to be identified with Mushke, which IS LOCATED IN NORTHWEST
ASIA MINOR, not modern-day Russia's Moscow. Also, there is no linguistic
affinity between the terms. The etymologies of the words are different.
Many successive Assyrian kings fought against Mushke, too. TUBAL IS
GEOGRAPHICALLY LOCATED IN ASIA MINOR also, not in Russia. Note also that
Meschech and Tubal are coupled together, in secular as well a Biblical
writings (Ezek 27:13; 32:26; Gen 10:2)... It's hard to be dogmatic about
just where this "Prince of Mesheck and Tubal" is going to come from. Today
Russia, Islam and Iraq have a lot in common.
Note on Ezek 38-39.
The Magog people descended from JAPHETH. Josephus identified them with the
Scythians.
Rosh in Hebrew means a chief, a prince.
Meschech(once Mesech/Ps 120:5)are a people descended from JAPHETH,Gen 10:2.
They were allies of Tubal, and allies or subjects of Gog. Meschech and
Tubal are associated together in the Assyrdian inscriptions. In about 1120
B.C. the land of Musku, that is Meschech lay in the mountains to the north
of Assyria and bordered on Tabal, that is Tubal in the west. All this in
the area not fare from Mt. Arrat where Noah's ark landed.
THE SIGN
Jesus explains the "sign" for the beginning of the "last days". Mat 24:7,8.
"For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and
there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in various
placed. All these (four things) are the beginning of sorrows." This a
four-fold sign:
1. A world war started by two nations and escalating to kingdoms.
2. Famines
3. Pestilences
4. Earthquakes in various places simultaneously.
The sign fulfilled: (All four parts were needed.)
1. World War I started June 28, 1914 between Austria and Serbia.
Shortly many kingdoms chose sides and entered the conflict until 27
nations officially declared war. It is reported that one out of every
seven men on earth during 1914-1918 were in uniform, totaling 53
million. It is estimated the 13,000,000 died in battle. The financial
cost exceeded $337 billion dollars, which in that day exceeded by one-
third the estimated wealth of the United States.
2. Famines. After and because of WWI unprecedented famines,
pestilences, and earthquakes followed. As a result of WWI and the
revolutions which followed, more than 27,000,000 people starved to
death.
3. Pestilence of life-destroying diseases and plagues usually follow
famines. A phenomenal number of deaths after WWI were due to
tuberculosis, plagues, cholera, typhus, cancer and others. The
influenza epidemic which swept through Europe and America killed more
American civilians than died on the battlefields of Europe. Deaths
because of influenza were estimated at 28 million. The epidemic
reached it height in 1918. The New York Times wrote: "It was an
undisputed fact that the influenza epidemic has been the greatest
pestilence of all history."
4. Earthquakes. Earthquakes are on the rise. West Pakistan in 1935
"was the most devasting earthquake in all history" but has been
exceeded many times since then. Major earthquakes, since WWI through
1970 (to name a few) were in Kansu Providence, China, Tokyo, Japan,
Persia, India, Peru, Formosa, and Southern California. Several multiple
earthquakes have been reported.
Note: This sign of four parts was to MARK THE BEGINNING OF SORROWS relates
to the Tribulation period and not the rapture. (Of course, we know that
the rapture of the church happen just before the tribulation).
A Prophetic Checklist for the Church (from Walvoord, 1974)
When all the predicted events relating to the church are placed in
chronological order, it is evident that the world has already been
carefully prepared for Christ's return. This check list includes the major
prophetic events in the order of their predicted fulfillment.
1. The rise of world communism marks a new beginning of the politics
of atheism.
2. Liberalism undermines the spiritual vitality of the church in
Europe and eventually America.
3. The movement toward a super-church begins with the ecumenical
movement.
4. Apostasy and open denial of Biblical truth is evident in the
church.
5. Moral chaos becomes more and more evident because of the complete
departure from Christian morality.
6. The sweep of spiritism, the occult, and belief in demons begin to
prepare the world for Satan's final hour.
7. Jerusalem becomes a center of religious controversy for Arabs and
Christians, while Jews of the world plan to make the city an
attractive center for Judaism.
8. True believers disappear from the earth to join Christ in heaven
at the rapture of the church.
9. The restraint of evil by the Holy Spirit is ended.
10. The super-church combines major religions as a tool for the false
prophet who aids the Antichrist's rise to world power.
11. The Antichrist destroys the super-church and demands worship as a
deified world dictator.
12. Believers of this period suffer intense persecution and are
martyred by the thousands.
13. Christ returns to earth with Christians who have been in heaven
during the tribulation and ends the rule of the nations at the
battle of Armageddon.
A Prophetic Checklist for the Nations (from Walvoord, 1974)
This list reveals that the world is dramatically prepared for events which
were predicted to occur during the last seven hears of the history of
civilization.
1. The establishment of the United Nations begins a serious first
step toward world government.
2. The rebuilding of Europe after World War II makes possible its
future role in a renewal of the Roman Empire.
3. Israel is reestablished as a nation.
4. Russia rises to world power and becomes the ally of the Arab
countries.
5. The Common Market and the World Bank show a need for some inter-
national regulation of the world economy.
6. Red China rises to world power and develops the capacity to field
an army of 200 million as predicted in prophecy.
* 7. The Middle East becomes the most significant trouble spot in the
world.
* 8. The Arab oil blackmail awakens the world to the new concentration
of wealth and power in the Mediterranean.
9. France and other Common Market countries move to form strong and
lasting ties with Arab oil exporters.
10. United States and Russian influence declines in the Middle East.
11. A world clamor for peace follows the continued disruption caused
by the high price of oil, threats of further boycotts, and the
inability of Israel and the Arabs to negotiate any lasting peace.
12. Ten nations create a united Mediterranean Confederacy -
beginnings of the last stage of the prophetic fourth world empire.
13. In a dramatic power play, a new Mediterranean leader upsets three
nations of the Confederacy and takes control of the powerful ten-
nation group.
14. The new Mediterranean leader negotiates a "final" peace
settlement in the Middle East. (This will be broken 3 1/2 years
later.)
15. The Russian army attempts an invasion of Israel and is
miraculously destroyed. (This may be the Prince from the
northwestern Middle East, Gog of Meschech & Tubal.)
16. The Mediterranean leader proclaims himself world dictator, breaks
his peace settlement with Israel, and declares himself to be God.
17. The new world dictator desecrates the temple in Jerusalem.
18. The terrible judgments of the great tribulation are poured out on
the nations of the world.
19. Worldwide rebellion threatens the world dictator's rule as armies
from throughout the world converge on the Middle East.
20. Christ returns to earth with His armies from heaven.
21. The armies of the world unite to resist Christ's coming and are
destroyed in the battle of Armageddon.
22. Christ establishes His millennial reign on earth, ending the
times of the Gentiles.
A Prophetic Checklist for Israel (from Walvoord, 1974)
Prophecies about the Jewish people and the nation have their own
distinct order of predicted events. In this prophetic checklist, as in the
others, the events already set in motion provide a startling preparation
for the final countdown to Armageddon.
1. The intense suffering and persecution of Jews throughout the world
lead to pressure for a national home in Palestine.
2. Jews return to Palestine and Israel is reestablished as a nation.
3. The infant nation survives against overwhelming odds.
4. Russia emerges as an important enemy of Israel, but the United
States come to the aid of Israel.
5. Israel's heroic survival and growing strength make it an
established nation, recognized throughout the world.
6. Israel's military accomplishments become overshadowed by the
Arab's ability to wage a diplomatic war by controlling much of
the world's oil reserves.
7. The Arab position is strengthened by their growing wealth and
alliances between Europe and key Arab countries.
8. The increasing isolation of the United States and Russia from the
Middle East makes it more and more difficult for Israel to
negotiate an acceptable peace settlement.
9. After a long struggle, Israel is forced to accept a compromise
peace guaranteed by the new leader of the Mediterranean
Confederacy of ten nations.
10. The Jewish people celebrate what appears to be a lasting and final
peace settlement.
11. During three-and-a-half years of peace, Judaism is revived, and
traditional sacrifices and ceremonies are reinstituted (n ark) in
the rebuilt temple of Jerusalem.
12. The Russian army attempts to invade Israel but is mysteriously
destroyed.
13. The newly proclaimed world dictator desecrates the temple in
Jerusalem and begins a period of intense persecution of Jews.
14. Many Jews recognize the unfolding of prophetic events and declare
their faith in Christ as the Messiah of Israel.
15. In the massacre of Jews and Christians who resist the world
dictator, some witnesses are divinely preserved to carry the
message throughout the world.
16. Christ returns to earth, welcomed by believing Jews as their
Messiah and deliverer.
17. Christ's thousand-year reign on earth from the throne of David
finally fulfills all the prophetic promises to the nation Israel.
