HOW TO BE SAVED

          by D.L. Moody

Remember, it was the ark that saved Noah. It was not his righteousness, not
his feelings, not his tears, not even his prayers. One moment he was outside
the ark - in mortal danger. The next moment he was inside - safe.

It was the blood that saved Moses and the Israelites. God didn't say, "when I
see Moses' feelings, or the feelings of the people, I will pass over you,"
nor, "When I see you praying and weeping, I will pass over you," but, "When I
see the blood I will pass over you." A little child, sheltered behind that
blood was just as safe as Moses.

Look ! See the Jew take hyssop, dip it in the blood of the slain lamb and
strike it on the doorpost. A moment ago the blood was not there. Now it is
there, and he and his family are saved. For God says, "When I see the blood I
will pass over you."

That was instantaneous. Some people say, "If I were only as good as that
minister, or as good as that saintly woman who has been praying fifty years
for the poor and unfortunate, I should feel so safe." My friends, if you are
behind the blood, you are as safe as anyone. Righteousness and good works
never brought safety to any man. "When I see the blood I will pass over you."

Death came that night. In Egypt, wherever the blood was on the doorposts he
passed over; but where the blood was not found, he entered and took one away.

Death makes no distinction except when a man is behind the blood.

Be wise, now, and shelter under the blood of the slain Lamb of God. His blood
is on the mercy seat, and while it is there you can be saved.

"The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life." Who will
have the gift, now?

Someone inquires. "But how about repentance?" What is repentance? It is a
right-about-face. Everyone is born with his back toward God, as it were.
Conversion turns him right round. You are in the broad path to hell. But turn,
leave your old friends and unite yourself with God's people. Get out of
Satan's service and get into the Lord's. Who will turn his feet toward God?

Yonder is the brazen serpent on the pole. God says to the Israelites, dying of
the bite of the fiery serpents, "Look and live!" Merely looking at the piece
of brass can't cure the bite. It is God who cures it. Looking is the
requirement. And God expects obedience. One moment the sufferer is dying, the
next he lives and is well. Don't look at the bite of sin, look to Jesus.

"As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man
be lifted up, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish but have
everlasting life." Look! "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ." How long does it
take a man to believe, or how long does it take a man to look?

Some believe in educating people to be Christians. But you need not go to
college to learn how to look. How long do you educate a child to look? The
mother merely says, "Look!" and her child responds.

Who will look, now, and live? Turn your eyes to Calvary; believe on the Lord
Jesus Christ and be saved.
