.
                               CHAPTER 1
1. Kefa, an emissary of Yeshua Messiah, unto (the) chosen/elect (who
are) alien-residents-<3927> of (the) Diaspora: of Pontus, of Galatia,
of Cappadocia, of Asia [P> Minor], and of Bithynia,
2. [P> Who have been chosen] According to the foreknowledge (of) Elohim
/God (the) Father, in sanctification of (the) Ruach/Spirit unto
obedience and sprinkling of (the) blood of Yeshua Messiah: Grace unto
you, and shalom be multiplied.
3. Blessed (be) the God and Father of the Lord of us Yeshua Messiah,
the (One) according to His abundant mercy 'having-[P> has again]'
regenerated us [P> spiritually] unto a living hope through (the)
resurrection of Yeshua Messiah from (the) dead,
4. Unto an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and unfading, having
been 'kept-[P> prepared]' in Heaven for you-
5. By power of Elohim, being guarded through faith 'unto a Salvation-
[P> for the life eternal]' ready to be revealed in (the) last time;
6. In which you [P> shall] exult/rejoice [P> forever]; yet (for) a
little (while), 'if it is necessary-[P> at present]', grieving in
manifold trials [P> which have come upon you],
7. -That the proving of your faith, much more precious than 'perishing-
[P> refined]' gold, yet-[P> which] through fire being 'proved-[P>
purified]', may be found unto praise and honor and glory at (the)
revelation/coming/manifestation of Yeshua Messiah;
8. Whom: not having '[P>]-seen-[known]', -you love; *in whom: (as of)
yet not seeing, -but (you are) believing, -you exult with joy
inexpressible and esteem glorious;
     *[P> ...and in whose faith you rejoice with exceeding joy that
     cannot be described;]
9. [P> And you shall (be)] obtaining the 'end of-[P> reward for]' your
faith, [P> even] the Salvation of (your) souls.
10. About which Salvation, sought out and searched out the prophets,
[P> when they (were)] prophesying concerning the grace 'for-[P> which
was to be given unto]' you,
11. *Searching for what, or what sort of time the Ruach/Spirit of
Messiah made clear within them; testifying in advance of the sufferings
(of) Messiah, and the glories after these.
     *[P> They searched to find out at what time it would be revealed,
     and the Ruach/Spirit of Messiah which dwelt in them testified
     beforehand the sufferings of Messiah and the glory that should
     follow.]
12. *Unto whom it was revealed that not to themselves, but unto us-
[you] they were-servants (of) the same things, which now were announced
unto you through those having proclaimed the Good-News unto you in
'Ruach (Ha)Kodesh/(the) Holy Spirit' sent from Heaven - into which
things angels long to look into.
     *[P> And everything they were searching for was revealed unto them
     for they did not seek for their own benefit, but they prophesied
     the things which concerned us, which now were announced unto ...]
13. Therefore, girding up the loins of your mind, being sober, {P>
perfectly} hope 'upon the grace being brought-[P> for the joy that
is coming]' unto you at (the) coming/revelation/manifestation of [P>
our Lord] Yeshua Messiah,
14. As children of obedience, *not fashioning yourselves 'in ignorance
to your former lusts-<to former lusts, (as) in your ignorance>',
     *[P> ... not partakers again in those sinful desires for which
     you once lusted in your ignorance,]
15. 'But indeed unto the Holy One calling you-[P> As He who has called
you is holy]', also yourselves become holy in all [P> your] conduct;
16. Because it has been written: Be holy, 'because-[P> even as]' I am
holy.
17. And if '(as)-[P> the]' Father you call upon [P>,] the (One) judging
without respect to persons, according to the work of each one, pass the
time of the sojourning of you [P> here] in fear,
18. Knowing that not with corruptible things, silver or gold, you were
redeemed from your worthless 'living-[P> deeds]' handed down from
(your) fathers,
19. But with precious blood of Messiah, as of a lamb unblemished and
unspotted,
20. 'Having been foreknown-[P> Who truly was foreordained for this very
purpose]' before (the) foundation of (the) world, but revealed in (the)
last of the times because of you,
21. The ones through Him believing in Elohim, the (One) raising Him
from (the) dead, and glory unto Him having given, thus therefore the
faith of you and hope (is) to be in Elohim.
22. [P> Let] The souls of you 'having-[P> be] purified in the obedience
of the truth {through (the) Ruach/Spirit} 'unto-[P> and be filled
with]' sincere {P> brotherly} love, [P> so that you may] from (a) pure
[P> and perfect] heart love one another {P> fervently},
23. Having been regenerated/born [P> again] not by corruptible seed,
but incorruptible, through (the) living Davar/Word of Elohim, 'and-[P>
(& the Word is)]' remaining 'unto the age-<forever>'.
24. Because all flesh (is) as grass, and all '(the) glory of man-[its
glory]' as (the) flower of 'grass-[P> the field]' - the grass was
dried, and the flower 'of it fell out-[P> fades away]':
25. -But the Davar/Word of 'HaShem/YHVH-[P> our God]' remains {unto the
age/forever}-[P>+]. And this is the [P> very] Davar/Word [P> which has
been] proclaimed {P> as Good-News} unto you.
                               CHAPTER 2
1. Then laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and
envies, and all evil 'words-[P> accusations]',
2. As newborn babies desire the of-the-Word/Logos-<3050>-rational pure/
undeceitful milk, that by it you may grow [up to salvation]-[P>+by it].
3. If indeed you tasted [P> and found out] that HaShem/YHVH (is) good.
     *NOTE: Where the reading in Tanakh uses HaShem/YHVH, (as in v.3
     here, drawing upon Ps.34:8{9}), I have tried to use this in the
     New Covenant quotations as well.
4. -Unto Whom drawing near, -a living Stone, by men indeed having been
rejected, but by Elohim elect/chosen, precious;
5. Also [P> build up] yourselves as living stones 'are being built a-
[P> and become]' spiritual 'house-[P> temples]', a sanctified-<sacred/
holy-40> cohanim/priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable
unto Elohim through Yeshua Messiah.
6. Because indeed it is contained in the Tanakh-<Scriptures>: Behold, I
lay in Tziyon/Zion an elect/chosen precious Chief-Corner Stone; and the
(one) believing upon Him-<It> shall 'not at all-<never>' be <a>shamed*.
     *NOTE: In Is.28:16 the Hebrew reads:...shall not hurry/make-haste.
     Perhaps the idea is included in 'making-haste' of running away -
     (in) "shame/ashamed", -as in the Greek reading above and the
     Aramaic Peshitta, [also see in LXX].
7. Unto you then, those believing, '(He is) the valuable (One)-[P>
therefore that this honor is given]'. But to [P>+]-disobeying-
[disbelieving] *ones, a Stone which those building rejected -this
(One) came-to-be-<became> into-the-position-of-<1519> Head-of (the)-
angle-<corner>,
     *[P>... ones, a stumbling Stone and a stone of trouble.]
     *NOTE: While the Greek {v.6} implies a Chief-foundation-Stone, it
     could be read, as some have suggested, as a Head-cap-Stone at the
     top of a pyramid {v.7}; but the Hebrew in Is.28:16 is quite clear
     as to it being a foundation-<4143>; while in Ps.118:22 {as in v.7
     above} the reading could also imply a Head-cap-Stone. -{Ps.118:22
     l'Rosh-<7218> pinah-<6438>}. So perhaps both ideas are shown:
     Messiah is both the Chief-corner-foundation-Stone, as well as the
     Head-cap-Stone, (or the top-most Stone).
8. *And a Stone -of-stumbling, and a Rock -of-offense unto those
disobeying, stumbling at the Davar/Word/Logos, unto which indeed they
were appointed.
     *[P> And they stumble over It because they are disobedient to the
     Word for which they were appointed.]
9. But you are a chosen/elect people/kin, 'a 'kingly/royal cohanim/
priesthood-<cohanim of the King>-[P> servants to the Kingdom]', a holy
nation, 'a people for acquisition/preservation/purchased/saving/
possession-<4047>-[P> a Congregation redeemed]' (by God), so as the
'virtues-[P> glories]' you may speak out of the (One) calling you from
darkness into the marvelous illumination/light of Him;
     *NOTE: Exodus 19:5-6.
10. -(You) who 'then-[P> in the past]' (were) not [P> considered] a
people, but now (are) Elohim's people; 'the one not pitied (before)-[P>
who hadn't obtained mercy]', but [P> who] now 'pitied-[P> have mercy
poured out upon them]'.
11. [P> Dearly] Beloved, I exhort (you) as sojourners and aliens to
abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul;
12. Having your behavior good 'among the goyim/nations/gentiles-[P>
before all men]', (so) that in which they speak against you as
evildoers, by the good mitzvot/ works-<2041> (of you, themselves)
having witnessed, they may glorify Elohim in a-[P> the] Day of
'visitation/inspection-(for relief)-<1984>-[P> trial]'.
13. Be obedient then unto every structure of mankind 'because of the
Lord-[P> for the sake of Elohim]'; whether unto 'a king/ruler as being
higher-[P> kings because of their power]';
14. Or unto 'governors-[P> judges]'; 'as through Him, indeed, having
been-[P> because from them officers are]' sent for vengeance (upon)
evildoers - but '(for) praise of-[P> to bestow honor on those who
(are)]' welldoers,
15. Because in this way is the will of Elohim, (and so by) doing good,
[P> works] to silence the 'ignorance-[P> mouths] of foolish men [P> who
know not Elohim]';
16. [P> Act] As free [P> men], and (yet) not [P> as men] having [P>
their] freedom as a cover of [P> their] evil, but as bond-servants of
Elohim;
17. -(Hold as) valuable all (people), love the brotherhood, fear/revere
-<5399> Elohim, value the [P>]-king/ruler.
18. Servants, be obedient 'in all fear-<5401>-[P> with due respect]'
unto the masters (of you), not only to the good and moderate/gentle,
but also unto the froward-<harsh> [P> and difficult].
     *NOTE: Parts of the Didache are similar to these verses.
19. 'For this (is) gracious, if because of conscience toward Elohim
-[P> For such men have found favor before Elohim; because of a good
conscience]' anyone bears grief, suffering unjustly.
20. For what fame/renown (is there) if (you're) sinning, and (then)
'being beaten with the fist-[P> suffering]' you patiently endure (it)?
But if (you're) doing good, and (then having) suffering you patiently
endure (it), 'this is a graciousness from-[P> then your glory is
greater with]' Elohim.
21. For unto this you were called, even Messiah suffered on behalf of
[P>]-us-[you], for [P>]-us-[you] leaving behind an example, that you
should follow the steps of Him;
22. -Who did not do sin, nor was found guile in the mouth of Him;
23. -Who, being reviled, did not revile in return; suffering, -He
threatened not, but gave '(Himself)-<(or also) the situation>)-[P> His
cause]' unto the (One) judging righteously;
24. Who the sins of us Himself carried up in the body of Him onto the
tree; (so) that (we) unto sins dying, 'unto-[P> through His]'
righteousness we 'might-[P> should]' live; of Whom, -by the wounds of
Him, you were healed.
25. For you were as sheep wandering, but you (are) turned now unto the
Shepherd and 'Overseer-[P> the Guardian]' of the souls of you.
                               CHAPTER 3
1. Likewise, wives, submitting yourselves unto (your) own husbands,
that even if any disobey the Word/Davar-<3056>, through the behavior of
the wives, without '<a/the> <W>ord/<D>avar-<3056>-[P> difficulty]' they
shall be won,
2. Having witnessed 'the pure behavior of you in fear-[P> that you
conduct yourselves with respect and modesty]'.
3. Of whom, -let it be not the outward: of braiding of hairs, and of
putting around gold [P> ornaments], or of [P> costly] clothing -of
garments adorning,
4. But the hidden man of the heart, in the incorrputible, -of the meek
'and quiet spirit-[P> pride]', [P> and an ornament] which is 'before
Elohim of great value-[P> rich in the sight of Elohim]'.
5. For so, (back) then also, the consecrated-<holy/40> women trusting/
confiding/expecting upon Elohim (thus) adorned 'themselves-[P> their
lives]', submitting themselves unto their own husbands,
6. As Sarah obeyed Avraham, calling him [P> my] lord-<2962>; of whom
you became 'children-[P> daughters]', [P> be reason of] doing good
[P> works], and 'fearing no terror-[P> so long as you aren't confused
by any kind of false value]'.
7. Husbands, likewise, dwelling together 'according to knowledge-
[P> with your wives with understanding, and hold them with tenderness],
as with a 'weaker-[delicate]' vessel {P> -the female, bestowing honor},
as truly co-heirs of (the) 'grace-[P> gift]' of life [P> everlasting],
-unto not cutting off the prayers of you.
8. And finally, (be) all of one mind, sympathetic, loving (the)
brothers, tenderhearted, friendly-[humble],
     *[P> Finally, live in harmony, share the suffering of those who
     suffer, be affectionate one unto another, and be kind and gentle,]
9. Not giving back evil against evil, or reviling against reviling, but
on the contrary, -blessing; knowing that unto this you were called,
that blessing you might inherit.
10. For the (one) desiring 'to love-[P> eternal]' life, and [P> wants]
to see good days, let him hold back his tongue from evil, even his
lips, not to speak guile.
11. Let him turn away from evil, and let him do good. Let him 'speak-
[P> seek]' shalom, and pursue it;
12. Because the eyes of HaShem/YHVH (are) on the righteous, and His
ears (open) unto their petition/prayer. But (the) face of HaShem/YHVH
(is) against (those) doing evil things.
     *NOTE: Psalms 34:13-17{12-16}.
13. And who (is) the (one) harming you, if you become 'imitators of the
-[P> zealous followers of that which is]' good?
14. But even-if you suffer because of righteousness, (you are) blest.
'But the fear of them-[P> And of those who terrify you]', do not fear,
nor be troubled.
15. But Adonai Elohim-[Messiah as Lord]-[P> the Lord Messiah] sanctify
in the hearts of you, and always (be) ready to give an answer unto
everyone asking you a word concerning the hope in you, with meekness
and fear-<5401>,
16. Having a good conscience, that while they speak against you as
evildoers, they may be shamed, those insulting/slandering the good
'behavior-[P> works]' of you in Messiah.
17. For better (if) doing good [P> deeds] to suffer, if wills the will
of Elohim, than (from) doing evil.
18. Because even Messiah once concerning sins suffered, the just for
the unjust, (so) that us-[you]-[P>] He might bring unto Elohim; indeed
'being put to death-[P> while He died]' in (the) flesh, 'but made alive
by-<in>-[P> He lives in]' the Ruach/Spirit;
19. {P> 'By Whom-<In Which>' also, going} unto the 'spirits-[P> souls]'
in prison [P> in Sh'ol-<Sheol>],' He then proclaimed-
20. -Unto disobeying ones, when once waited [patiently] the
longsuffering of Elohim in the days of Noach, an ark having been
prepared, in which a few, that is eight souls, were saved through
water.
     *[P> Those who in the past were disobedient; and in the days of
     Noach, when the Spirit of Elohim had patience, He commanded an
     ark to be made in the hope of their repentance, but only eight
     souls entered into it, and were saved by its floating upon the
     water.]
21. Which figure also us now saves [P> you by-], mikvah/immersion -not
of flesh -a putting away of filth, but '(the) answer of a good-[P> with
a clean]' consience 'toward-[P> confessing]' Elohim [P> and] through
(the) resurrection of Yeshua Messiah;
22. Who is at (the) Right-(Hand) of Elohim, having gone into Heaven,
(having)-been-<being> subjected unto Him angels, and authorities, and
powers.
                               CHAPTER 4
1. Therefore, Messiah having suffered {for 'us-[P> you]'} in (the)
flesh, also you -(with) the same mind arm yourselves, 'because the
(one) suffering in (the)-[P> he who subdues his]' flesh has ceased from
sin,
2. For no longer in the lusts of men, but in (the) will of Elohim, to
live the remaining time in (the) flesh.
3. For unto us (is) sufficient the time {of life}-[P>(-)] having (now)
passed away, of the will of the goyim/nations/gentiles having
fully-worked (by) 'having-traveled/traversed-in-[P> lived in]'
wantonness, {P> lusts,} drunkennesses, parties-[P> revellings],
carousings-[P> indecent singings]', and unlawful idolatries;
4. 'While they are (now) suprised-[P> And behold, they think it
strange]', you not running with (them) into the 'same overflow/flood of
unsavedness-[P> past excesses]', (and are) speaking-evil (of you);
5. Who shall give account unto 'the (One) having readiness-<ability>
-[P> Elohim, Who is]' to judge (both the) living and dead.
6. For indeed, for this (reason) unto (the) dead was proclaimed the
Good-News, that they may, indeed, be judged according to men in (the)
flesh, and-<but> may live according to Elohim in <R>uach/<S>pirit.
7. But the end of all things has drawn near. Be 'of sound mind
-[P> devout]', then, and watch unto the prayers;
8. And before all things unto yourselves having fervent love, because
love 'shall cover-[P> covers]' a multitude of sins.
9. Be hospitable-<fond of guests> unto 'one another-[P> strangers]'
without murmurings,
10. Each one, as he received a gift [P> from Elohim], serving it unto
yourselves, as good managers-<house-distributors> of (the) manifold
grace of Elohim.
11. If anyone 'speaks, -as utterances-[P> proclaims, let him proclaim
the Word]' of Elohim; if anyone serves, -as by 'strength-[P> the
ability]' which Elohim 'supplies-[P> has given him]'; that in all
things [P> you do] Elohim may be glorified through Yeshua Messiah, unto
Whom is the glory and the 'power-<might>-[P> honor]' unto the ages of
the ages.  Amaen.
12. Beloved, do not think it strange (at) the fiery-<smelting>-trial
happening among you for your testing, as (if) a strange thing unto you
(is) occurring;
13. *But in proportion as you share the sufferings of 'HaMashiach/The-
Messiah', rejoice; so that also at the manifestation/revelation of the
Sh'khinah-<Glory> of Him you may jump-for-joy-<21>.
     *[P> But rejoice, for you are partakers of Messiah's sufferings;
     and when His Glory shall be revealed you may be glad also with
     exceeding joy.]
14. If you are reviled for (the) Name of Messiah, (you are) blest, for
the Ruach/Spirit of the Sh'khinah-<Glory> {P> and} of Elohim upon you
rests. {Indeed, according to them, He is evil-spoken-of/blasphemed; but
according to you, He is glorified.}-[P>(-)].
15. For let not any of you suffer 'as-[P> the fate of]' a murderer, or
a thief, or an evil-doer, {P> or as a 'meddler/inspector into other
men's matters-<244>'.}
16. But if as a M'shacheeym-<follower of Messiah> (one suffers), let
him not be ashamed, 'and/but to-[P> but let him]' glorify Elohim 'in
this respect-[P> through that very Name]'.
17. Because the time (has come) to begin the judgement from the house
of Elohim; and if firstly from us, what (shall be) the end of the ones
disobeying the Good-News of Elohim?
18. And if the righteous one scarcely is saved, 'where-[P> how]' shall
the ungodly and sinner 'appear-[P> stand judgement]'?
19. So as indeed the ones suffering according to the will of Elohim, as
unto a faithful Creator, let them commit the souls of themselves in
welldoing/doing-good.
                              CHAPTER 5
1. The 'elders-<4245 spec.: Israeli Sanhedrists>' among you I exhort, I
a fellow-elder and witness of the sufferings of HaMashiach/The-Messiah,
and being of the about-to-be revealed/uncovered glory a sharer;
2. 'Shepherd-[P> Feed]' the flock of Elohim 'among you-[P> which is
entrusted unto your care]', 'excercising oversight-[P> and shepherd
them spiritually]', not compulsorily, but [according to Elohim]-[P(-)]
willingly; nor for base-gain, but 'eagerly-[P> with all your heart]';
3. 'Nor-[P> Live not]' as to-lord-against the 'allotments-[P> flock]',
but 'becoming-[P> as good]' examples 'of the flock-[P> unto them]'.
4. And at the appearing of the Chief-Shepherd, you shall receive the
unfading crown of glory.
5. Likewise, younger persons be subject unto [P> your] elders; {P> and
all unto one another being subject.} Humility clothe-yourselves-with
[P> toward one another], because Elohim sets against proud/arrogant
-ones, but unto humble ones He gives grace.
6. Be humbled then under the mighty hand of Elohim, that you He may
exalt in time;
7. All the anxiety of you casting onto 'Him-[P> Elohim]', because to
Him it matters concerning you.
8. Be sober, watch! -{Because} the Adversary of you, (the) false-
accuser/reviler, as a roaring lion walks about seeking someone he may
devour;
9. 'Whom 'resist, firm-<(or) resist firmly>'-[P> Rise up, therefore
against him, as you are steadfast]' in the faith, knowing the same
sufferings '(that are) in the world are being accomplished in your
brotherhood-<(or) are being ... brotherhood in the world>-[P>]'.
10. 'But may-[now]' the God of all grace, the (One) calling us-[you]
unto the eternal glory of Him in Messiah Yeshua, (you) a little having
suffered, (He) Himself [shall] perfect, confirm, strengthen, establish
you.
     *[P> But the God of all grace, Who called us unto His eternal
     glory by Yeshua Messiah, Whom Elohim has given unto us, shall
     strengthen us to endure these little afflictions that we may be
     made steadfast and remain in Him forever.]
11. Unto Him is the glory and the 'power-<might>-[P> dominion]' [P> and
honor] unto the ages of the ages. Amaen.
12. Through Sila, 'as I reckon the-[P> a]' brother faithful, unto you
via a few (words) I wrote [P> according to my opinion], exhorting and
testifying this to be (the) true grace of Elohim, in which you stand.
13. The 'fellow-chosen/elect in-[P> chosen congregation which is at]'
Babylon greet you; and-<also> Mark the son of me.
14. Greet one another with a [P> holy] kiss {P> of love}. Shalom
'aleikhem-<unto you>', all those in Messiah {P> Yeshua}.  Amaen.
