OR THE SIGN OF THE END OF THE AGE AND RETURN OF THE LORD. Matthew 24 and 25, together with Mark 13 and Luke 21, constitute the Olivet discourse. As Jesus came out of the temple where He had been teaching and was going on His way, His disciples came to Him and called to His attention the marvelous architectural effects of the temple. When the temple had originally been built by King Solomon it took one hundred eighty-five thousand men seven and a half years to build. Soloman sent for Hiram, king of Tyre, who was the greatest of temple builders, to come down to help him build the temple. I have been in the ruins of the temple at Baalbek just outside of Tyre where stand the ruins of the most magnificent temple of the ancient world. We can see why Solomon asked for Hiram's help in building the temple. That temple was destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar just prior to the Babylonian captivity. At the end of the Babylonian captivity, as seen in the books of Zechariah, Haggai, Ezra, and Nehemiah, when the Jews went back to the city of Jerusalem, they began rebuilding the temple. It took them a long time to finish that temple; and when Zerubbabel finished the post-exilic temple, it is said the old-timers who had remembered the spender of Solomon's temple wept upon seeing the new temple, because it was very modest in comparison. That temple remained in existence until the time of Antiochus Epiphanes. In 170 B.C. Antiochus desecrated the temple, and erected an altar to Jupiter Olympius in the Holy of Holies. He sacrificed a sow, an unclean animal according to the Jewish dietary laws, and threw the pig gravy all over the temple. That temple remained in a desecrated condition until A.D. 163, almost exactly seven years later when the Maccabees revolted against Antiochus, retook their city. Jerusalem, and rededicated the temple. From that time on the temple. From that time on the temple slowly went into a state of disrepair. The Jews then came under the domination of the Romans. Because of the oppression of the Romans, the Jews incited one insurrection after another. Herod the Great decided to build their temple to something of its former grandeur, hoping that would quiet the Jews. In 18 B.C., Herod, with a great amount of Roman money, began rebuilding the temple. Years later, in 30 A.D., as it neared completion, the disciples came to Jesus to call to His attention the marvelous architectural effects of the temple; Jesus made a prophecy that astounded His followers, "There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down (Matt.24:2). That prophecy was literally fulfilled in A.D.70 when the temple was completely destroyed. =============================== PAGE 2 =============================== Then He walked with His disciples in an easterly direction outside the gate down through the valley of the Kidron, up through the Garden of Gethsemane to the side of the Mount of Olives, from which to get the most magnificent view of the city of Jerusalem. Probably on Wednesday of what we call Passion week (Holy week), while Jesus was on the side of the Mount of Olives, His disciples came to him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these *** things be; and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end *** of the world [ or literally, age.] His disciples came asked him a total of three questions, two questions are seen in Matthew chapter 24, verses three and four, the third question is seen in Luke 21:7. The three questions are: 1. When shall these things be - ( that is, when will the temple be destroyed ) 2. What shall be the sign when these things are about to come to pass ? 3. What shall be the sign of thy coming and the end of the age? Jesus' answer to those three questions constitutes what we call the "Olivet Discourse." The first two questions have to do with the destruction of the temple and the sign that the temple is about to be destroyed. (Only Luke (chapter 21) records the answer to the first two questions. The answer to the third question is of utmost importance to us; What shall be the sign of thy coming and the end of the age? Note the next statement, Jesus did not evade their question or change the subject, ***And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man lead you astray.*** ( Matt. 24: 3,4) He then gave them two things that did not constitute the answer to their question. Jesus, by doing this, followed a good rule of logic: in order to tell what something is you first tell what it is not. Jesus described the course of this Christian dispensation: *** Many shall come in my name, saying I am the Christ [or the Messiah]; and shall lead many astray. And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars; see that ye be not trouble: for these things must needs come to pass; but the end is not yet.*** (Matt. 24:5,6) Jesus said there would be false Christ's, local wars, and rumors of wars throughout the Christian dispensation, but to attach absolutely no prophetic significance to them. He then came to the subject they were interested in: *** For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there shall be famines and earthquakes in divers places.*** ( Matt. 24:7). He listed several things that will come together. Nation against nation, kingdom against kingdom, accompanied by famines and earthquakes in diverse places. =============================== PAGE 3 =============================== The phrase, *** nation against nation and kingdom against kingdom, is an Old Testament idiom which has the following meaning: 1. It describes a war 2. which begins in a small way, and 3. grows 4. to include all of those cities or nations before the eyes of the prophet. An idiom is a figure of speech peculiar to a certain group of people. Since this is a Hebrew idiom and is found in two places in the Old Testament, II Chronicles 15:1-8 and Isaiah 19:1-5, the disciples would have understood its meaning to be a world war, since, in the Olivet Discourse the entire world is before the eyes of the prophet, *** "When the son of man shall come in His glory and all of the angels with Him then shall He sit on the throne of His glory and before Him shall be gathered all the nations," Matthew 25: 31-32.In 1914 to 1918 we saw a war which began in a small way and grew to include all the major nations of the world. World War I The First Birth Pain Shortly before noon on Sunday, June 28, 1914, crowds gathered in Sarajevo, the capital of the Austrian province of Bosnia. They came to see Archduke Francis Ferdinand, heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary, and his wife Sophie. Suddenly a man jumped on the running board of the royal touring car and fired a pistol. Two shots struck Ferdinand and one hit Sophie, who was trying to shield him. They both died almost immediately. The assassin was Gavrilo Princip, a young Bosnian student who had lived in Serbia. Austria-Hungary suspected that its small neighbor, Serbia, had approved the plot to kill Ferdinand. As a result. It declared war on Serbia exactly one month later, July 28, 1914. By October 30 th, the central powers -- Austria-Hungary, Germany and the Ottoman Empire- at war with the allies- Belgium, France, Great Britain, Russia, and Serbia. Before the war was over all the major nations of the world had become involved in with allies seeing over 56 million dead 12 million wounded and 22 million total casualties. The central powers saw 3,400,000 put to death 8 million wounded and 15 million total casualties. Thus World War I of 1914-1918 is clearly seen in verses 7 and 8. It was followed with terrible typhus, cholera and influenza epidemics; as a matter of fact one year after the war 20 million people died of influenza. Jesus said it would be accompanied by famine, pestilence's and earth-quakes. More earthquakes have been recorded since World War I than were recorded in all history prior to World War I. However, World War I has come and gone almost 70 years have taken place and the Lord has not come. But Jesus did not say this was the sign of His coming and the end of the age, He simply stated that all these things, World War I accompanied with famine, earthquakes & pestilence would be the beginning of travail or birth pains. World War I was very important to Jewish nation. In 1916 the war was going very badly for the allies, England's great naval guns and field cannon were going silent for lack of smokeless gunpowder, Cordite. At this point a young Jewish scientist came on the scene by the name of Chaim Weizmann 1874-1952. =============================== PAGE 4 =============================== Acetone was used in the production of Cordite and it was needed in great quantities. Up until this time, acetone was made from wood. Alcohol is made from both wood and grain acetone up until that time, had only was made from wood and England's great forests were virtually depleted. Chaim Weizmann had worked as a chemist in Geneva, Switzerland and was at this time teaching chemistry in Manchester, England. His work on making acetone from a grain mash was brought to the attention of prime minister of England, Lloyd George. He was commissioned to set up plants making acetone from grain. He even came to this country and used a number of breweries in the U.S. to facilitate the mass production of acetone, which virtually changed the course of the war in favor of England against Germany and the central powers. This brought Weizmann many friends in the cabinet of England and because his heart burned with the Zionist movement he able to persuade the British cabinet to issue the Balfour Declaration in 1917, which encouraged the setting up a national home for Jews in Palestine. From his early days he had been interested in the Zionist work of Theodore Herzl. Weizmann headed the Jewish delegation at the Paris peace conference in 1919 and succeeded in having the mandate for Palestine established to Great Britain, and on April 24, 1920 the Supreme Council of the Allies, at its meeting in San Remo, formally agreed that Palestine should be placed under a British mandate and that Great Britain should be responsible for carrying the Balfour Declaration in effect. On September 29, 1923 the mandate came into full operation. The foundation stone of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem was laid on Mount Scopis in July 1918 by Weizmann. Weizmann went on to become the first president of Israel in 1949. So we say World War I prepared the land for the Jew, but the Jews were secure in Poland, Germany and Europe and did not want to go to that barren land. In 1925 the Jewish population of Israel was only about 90,000 in rural areas. Jesus likened this Christian dispensation to the time a woman is pregnant, carrying her unborn child near here heart for a period of nine months. When she comes toward the end of her pregnancy she is seized with here first birth pain. She knows it is to followed by other pains, but she also knows those birth pains, but she also knows those birth pains are pointing to a birth. If World War I was the first birth pain, and Jesus used the term "birth pains" in the plural, we can suppose that there would be another world war; and so there was. World War II would have been the second birth pain. "World War II The Second Birth Pain" World War II, however, changed the course of history for the Jewish people. Adolf Hitler came on the scene with the greatest program of anti-Semitism the world had ever seen. He succeeded in killing half the Jews in the world - 6,000,000 - thus the Jews who had been so secure in Germany and Poland and Europe realized they had to go back to the land of their fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and develop their own homeland. So we see how World War II prepared the Jew for the land. =============================== PAGE 5 =============================== " The Great Tribulation " When interpreting Bible prophecy it is very important to know the law of double reference. This law may be likened to looking at one's television screen and then presently the picture of a second event is superimposed over the first one. The first one then fades away and the second picture comes into full view. Often the prophet will be talking about one important scene in Bible prophecy and then, by the law of double reference will change to a completely different subject. That is what Jesus does in verses 9 through 28. In verses 7 and 8 he had brought us to World War I and II. He then skips over the time between World War I and II. He then skips over the time between World War II and the rapture of the church and begins discussing the events of the tribulation. Verses' nine *** "Then shall they deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, ye shall be hated of all nations for my name sake then shall many stumble and shall deliver up one another and hate one another and many false prophets shall arise and lead many astray. " During the first half of the tribulation false prophets will begin to abound. Verse 13, *** He that endureth to the end (that is, the end of the tribulation) the same shall be saved." That person who does not bow down to the anti-christ and does not take the mark of the beast is promised that the gospel will get to him during the tribulation. This shows because he does not take -the mark of the beast- that he has an honest heart; and his honest heart will lead him to receive the truth, when during the tribulation it is given to him. Verse 14, *** "This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world for a testimony unto all the nations and shall the end come." There is only one gospel: it is called the Gospel of His Son Romans 15:19. *** " It is the good news that men are saved by the grace of God through "FAITH in Jesus Christ", apart from any works of their own. Meaning, believing beyond any doubt that Jesus Christ is the Messiah, God, and apart from any works of their own. (Not just being a good person) This is the gospel that Paul refers to when he said, that through we or an angel from heaven, should preach unto you any gospel other than that which we preached unto you, let him be anathema. "*** Galatians 1:8 & 9. Revelation, chapter seven gives us the fulfillment of this promise of Jesus when 144,000 Israeli evangelists, 12,000 out of each twelve tribes turn to the Lord and are sealed so they cannot be put to death. They take the gospel to the whole world and lead billions to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus during the tribulation. Isaiah 26:9 says, *** " When thy judgments are in the earth the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness." *** When the terrible judgments of the seals, Rev 6; trumpets, Rev 8-9; and bowls, Rev 16, come upon the earth people will be ready to listen to these "Apostle Paul's" of the tribulation. =============================== PAGE 6 =============================== Probably more people will be saved during this time that will have been saved from Pentecost to the rapture. Verse 15 brings us to the very middle of the tribulation when anti-christ is put to death; comes back to life and the great idol is erected to him by the false prophet just in front of the tribulation temple:(read carefully Revelation, chapter thirteen). When those they are to flee into the mountains, because at that time anti-christ will launch a terrible anti-Semitic program which is pictured in Revelation twelve by the woman (Israel) who flees into the wilderness for 1260 days, or the last half of the tribulation. Jesus goes on to say in verse 22, "Except those days had been shortened" (they will not be shortened further then the seven years they have already been shortened to the seven years), no flesh would have been saved, but for the elect's sake those days had been shortened to the seven years. Note verse 24, the order of the tribulation will be false christs abounding under the great false prophet seen as the second beast in Revelation, chapter 13. EVENTS IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE GREAT TRIBULATION Verses 29-31 After the tribulation has run it's 2520 days-beginning with the signing of the covenant by the anti-christ with the Jewish people (Daniel 9:27) -there will be a black-out; and then the Lord Jesus will appear in glory with great majesty and power. Verse 31, "He will send forth His angels with a great sound of a trumpet and they shall gather together His elect from (two different areas) the four winds (which refers to earth),and from one end of heaven to the other." When the Lord Jesus comes back to the earth at the end of the tribulation, note that there will be His elect on the earth, those who have accepted the Lord during the tribulation. He also will bring back with Him those that are in heaven. Who are those in heaven that He brings back with Him? Those who were caught up in the rapture before the tribulation began. The Rapture-Catching Up of Believers Verses 32-51 As Jesus left the subject of World War I and World War II by the law, of double reference, He now comes back to that period of time and fills in the details by the Law of Recurrence. The Law of Recurrence is illustrated by getting one's portrait painted. At the first sitting the artist may block in certain details with charcoal and then, at ensuing sittings he fills in the details. Jesus comes back now to the subject that He left between verses 8 and 9 and develops what happens during the time between World War II and the beginning of the tribulation. =============================== PAGE 7 =============================== Beginning with verse 32, we read concerning the period of time between World War II and the Rapture of the church: *** Now from the fig tree learns her parable: when her branch is now become tender, and putteth forth its leaves, ye know that the summer is nigh.*** Remember that Jesus was on the Mount of Olives. It was the spring of the year. He called the disciples' attention not only to the fig tree, but according to Luke 21:29, to all the trees. Jesus said to His disciples: *** When her branch is now become tender, and putteth forth its leaves, ye know that the summer is nigh; even so ye also, when ye see all these things, know ye that he is nigh, even at the doors. *** (Matt, 24:32,33). The Greek for "all these things" is panta tauta, which refers to the beginning of birth pains ( verses 7 & 8). Thus, Jesus was saying, in effect, when you see World War I accompanied by its famines, pestilence, and earthquakes, you will know that the coming of the Lord is near: that He is nigh, even at the door. Verily I say unto you, This generation (Matt. 24:34). The Greek word generation is genea. The word's gene, genetic, and gynecology derive from it. This Greek word literally means "born one." Remember Jesus said there would be birth pains, World War I and World War II. Birth pains always indicate there will be a birth. What is this birth about which Jesus was talking? I think there can be no question that He was referring to the birth of the nation Israel, which took place May 14, 1948, when Israel was born as a nation. This was also prophesied in Isaiah 66;7, where the prophet used this same term, travail. *** Before she travailed, she brought forth; before her pain came, she was delivered of a man child. Who hath heard of such a thing? Who hath seen such things? Shall a land be born in one day? Shall a nation be brought forth at once? for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children. Shall I bring to the birth, and not cause to bring forth? saith Jehovah: shall I that cause to bring forth shut the womb? (Is. 66:7-9) Here it is prophesied that there would be the birth of a man child. This birth would be preceded by a time of travail. That time of travail began with World War I, continued in World War II, and finally the birth of this man child took place May 14, 1948. Jesus said "this borne one" would not pass away till all these things be fulfilled. =============================== PAGE 8 =============================== ************** THE NATION OF ISRAEL LIKENED TO A JEWISH BOY ************* The nation of Israel may be likened to a Jewish boy, born in 1948. When a Jewish boy is twelve years old, he has his Bar Mitzvah. The year 1948 plus twelve years brings us to 1960, when a most significant event took place in Israel. 1960 12TH BIRTHDAY "BAR MITZVAH" The Jewish nation through its master sleuths tracked down Adolf Eichmann who had masterminded the killing of 6 million Jews under Adolf Hitler. Before the eyes of an amazed world, they brought him to trail, and put him to death. Also this was the year Israel went from the underdeveloped nation status in the United Nations to a developing nation status. Israel was recognized as a man in his Bar Mitzvah after those events of 1960. 1967 19TH BIRTHDAY "MAN OF WAR" The next event in the life of Jewish man takes place upon his 19 th birthday entering his 20th year when he becomes a "man of war." A Jewish boy could not go to war until after his 19th birthday. When I saw this I began preaching that we could expect a war to place in Israel after Israel's 19th birthday upon entering this 20th year. And sure enough right after Israel's 19th birthday, the Six Day War began, June 7th, 1967. Israel proved himself to be a great man of war winning back in six days the old city of Jerusalem, the Sinai, and the entire Golan Heights; driving King Hussein from the old city of Jerusalem back beyond the Jordan River; and while he, as a member of the Islamic religion, is not permitted to sing Christian songs, he might well sing, "On Jordan's stormy banks I stand and cast a wistful eye to Canaan's fair and happy land where my possessions lie." ! 1978 30TH BIRTHDAY "MAN OF PEACE" A Jewish boy could not become a man of peace until his 30th birthday. Jesus did not start preaching until he was 30 years old. A man could not become a priest until his 30th year. The Camp David Accords took place during Israel's 30th year when Israel signed the peace pact with Egypt on the Camp David Accords on the lawn of the White House. Israel showed himself as a man of peace by giving back the entire Sinai which it had won during the Six Day War. We have seen Israel come along and grow into manhood since 1948. Jesus said the nation of Israel would not become an old man and pass away until all of these events of prophecy were fulfilled. Psalm 90:10 estimates how long one may expect to live: The days of our years are three score and ten, or even by reason of strength, four score years. If our biblical interpretation is correct we may conclude that before the nation of Israel grows up to become a man eighty years of age, we may well expect to see the return of the Lord. Thus, we are living in the generation of our Lord's return. There are many who interpret verses 32 through 51 as the events referring to the end of the tribulation- making the days of Noah refer to the wicked days at the end of the tribulation - however, from the text it is clear that this period must refer to the days before the beginning of the tribulation and thus picture a pre tribulation rapture; for in Matthew 24:36 Jesus said, "But of that day and hour knoweth no man.." and again in verse 42, "Watch therefore: for ye know not on what day your Lord cometh." ========================= PAGE 9 ============================ If the rapture were to take place in the middle of the tribulation the day could be easily calculated. 1260 days from the signing of the covenant by antichrist with the Jewish nation (Dan 9:27) and the Lord would return. Or if the rapture is to take place at the end of the tribulation that day could be easily calculated. From the time the abomination of desolation is set up one could count 1260 days to the Lord's return or a total of 2520 days from the signing of the covenant; thus the day of glorious appearing of Christ back to this earth can be calculated. Since in this passage Jesus makes it very clear that we cannot know the day of the rapture this demands that we accept the interpretation that the subject in verses 32 through 51 is the time before the tribulation begins when the rapture will take place in an unexpected way. LIKE THE DAYS OF NOAH Moreover, the "days of Noah" do not particularly refer to the wickedness of Noah's day but the fact that in Noah's day people were living normal everyday lives in the light of coming destruction. They were living as though they were going to live forever, when God had set the time of the flood. They went on, eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage (verse 38) in a very normal life. Jesus indicates that the sin of the church in the last days before the rapture will be living in a normal way-when these last days demand of us that we do not live in a normal way-but are about Father's business as never before. Parable of The Virgins In Matthew Chapter 25:1-13 This is a parable on being prepared for the rapture, to be ready all the time-because we do not know the day that Jesus will come. In verses 14 through 30 He makes it clear that at His coming He is going to reward those who faithfully serve Him. When we come back and reign with Him we will be rewarded in the measure that we have faithfully served Him now. The Judgment of The Nations that Survive the 7 Year Tribulation Matthew 25: 15-46 Thus we have seen that Christ comes for His saints before the tribulation begins and then He comes back to earth after the tribulation with His saints and sets up His kingdom. He then sits on the throne of His glory (MT 25: 31-46). Those who have received Him (probably at the very time of His coming who have lived through the tribulation and not taken the mark of the beast). He will permit to enter into His 1,000 year millennial reign; the others who took the mark of the beast will be banished into outer darkness forever. While it seems, at the judgment of the nations, those who will be permitted to enter the millennium are permitted to do so on the basis of their good works -that is, treating kindly Jesus' brethren according to the flesh, the Jewish people-that certainly is not the case. These who saw Jesus hungry, naked and thirsty and fed Him, clothed Him, and gave Him to drink, are those honest truth-seekers who during the tribulation, though no saved, did not take the mark of the beast, nor bow down to the anti-christ. This shows that they had an honest heart. =========================== PAGE 10 =============================== Remember God's promise in Matthew 24:13, He that endures to the end the same shall be saved. They will not be saved on the basis of the fact that they well have treated the Jewish people kindly during the tribulation, protecting them, clothing them, feeding them, as they flee from before the program of the anti-christ, but those good kindly acts will show that they have a good and honest heart; and thus when the gospel is presented to them, they will receive Jesus as Lord. On the basis of that act, and that act alone, they will be declared righteous and permitted to enter Christ's millennial reign. Thus we see we are in the generation of the Lord's return and we must be about His business as never before not becoming concerned so much with the things of this life but being good steward and giving ourselves to witness for Him as never before. All the prophecies that have to do with the Jesus Christ return for His saints (the Rapture) have been fulfilled! We are now living in the very last days. On what day should we look for the Jesus Christ return.? *************************************************************************** It is my opinion that most of the prophecies of Jesus Christ has been fulfilled. A ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT is taking place (THE NEW WORLD ORDER) all that is needed now before the rapture is to take place is a world wide revival which will trigger the rapture. A numbers game so to speak, (A count of those who have received Jesus Christ at their personal Lord and Savior, God. (God only knows what that number is) and when that number has been reached the rapture will take place. (Satin is trying to bust people's faith in Jesus Christ.) The rapture marks the beginning of the tribulation period. Only those who have refused to take the "mark of the beast" (sorta like the universal price code, or bar codes. Bar codes are based on the numbers "666") nor bow down to the anti-christ will be accepted into Jesus Christ's 1000 Year millennial. During the time of the tribulation, I believe after the time of the rapture, 144,000 Jewish Evangelist will proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ and save billions of people. I as a Christian have been taught that the Jewish people are God's chosen people. We are taught how much God loves the Jewish people and how God chose the Jewish people to be lamp unto the world. I have many Jewish friends and respect and enjoy their company. This following statement regarding the anti-christ is not to be a be littleing remark to the Jewish people who I dearly care about.
