The Greek word "arche" appears in 56 passages in the New Testament. In the
majority of those passages the word means "beginning", and cults such as the
Jehovah's Witnesses have tried to apply this translation to Rev. 3:14 in
such a way as to imply that Jesus was not pre-existent. However, "beginning"
is not a universal translation for the word "arche". Here are 11 passages
where "arche" does not mean "beginning" along with an alternate translation
of Rev. 3:14 taken from the New International Version, and finally a
definition of "arche" taken from the authoritative Strong's Concordance:

"Now when they bring you to the synagogues and *magistrates* and
authorities, do not worry about how or what you should answer, or what you
should say. -- Luke 12:11 (NKJV)

So they watched Him, and sent spies who pretended to be righteous, that they
might seize on His words, in order to deliver Him to the *power* and the
authority of the governor. -- Luke 20:20 (NKJV)

*principalities* nor powers, nor things present nor things to come,
-- Romans 8:38 (NKJV)

to the intent that now the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the
church to the *principalities* and powers in the heavenly places,
-- Ephesians 3:10 (NKJV)

against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against
spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
-- Ephesians 6:12 (NKJV)

For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth,

for every good work, -- Titus 3:1 (NKJV)
