Four-way baptism "Four-way baptism makes ecumenical history." This was the title of a news report issued by the National Council of Churches concerning what it called "the first multi-denominational baptism service since the Protestant Reformation." The one-and-a-half-hour service held at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Sacramento included participating bishops from the Roman Catholic Church, the Episcopal Church, the Western Diocese of the Armenian Church of America (Oriental Orthodox), and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Each of four children was baptized in his or her own Christian tradition, according to this report, "but under one roof, in the water of one font, knit together by one liturgy, celebrated in the power of the Holy Spirit, by one people." A woman leader of the NCC spoke at this ecumenical baptism and was quoted as saying, "As you grow older, you will come to appreciate the richness of God's gift, given to you today, and you will remember that we are one family: Orthodox, Anglican, Roman Catholic, and Protestant, with an extended family of all who believe." A religious Tower of Babel is being constructed by religious apostates, and God's people should have nothing to do with it! --Foundation |
